Still have questions?

Prefab blanks are slabs that are cut into particular sizes and have one edge that is polished and are usually thinner. They are typically fabricated in countries with cheap labor, like China, and if you decide to use these, you will not have a custom fabricated countertop. Some lower end fabricators use granite blanks to entice customers with a low price.

What are prefabricated granite blanks?

No, we do not level cabinets. You will need the help of your carpenter or contractor. We highly recomend the cabinets being flat and level within ⅛ inch. This allows for minimal use of shims during installation and drastically diminish the chance of cracks.

Can you level my cabinets?

Yes and no. We do everything we can to put seams in the best possible location. We take into consideration room layout, ceiling height (carrying the counter into the house) color movement within the stone and matching variations. Our goal is to make the seams as least noticeable as possible. Seams can almost always be felt because the epoxy used to join 2 pieces of stone together will not “feel” like natural stone.

Will granite seams show?

No, you pick out the stone you like and we purchase it from our supplier. You are only charged for the square footage of stone that is installed. No need to worry about where to store the extra stone from your project or buying a full slab for a small project.

Do I need to buy full granite slabs?

An inch and a half is typical for the kitchen and vanities. Bar tops and islands can be extended up to 12 inches past the wall or cabinet face with extra support like decorative corbels or flat steel plate that is scribed into the top of your cabinets.

How much overhang can we do?

Knives cannot scratch true granite. The only thing harder than granite is diamond. For example, diamond is scored 10 on the MOH’s hardness scale and granite is scored 7. Diamond blades are the only thing that can cleanly cut through granite. Other natural stones like Gneiss and Schist are commonly called granite, but they do not have a MOH score of 7, and they can probably be scratched by knives.

Can knives scratch granite?

No, granite is easily maintained and only requires mild soap and water to clean.
